Jorge grew up deep in this forest and has committed his life to understanding and working with this environment. Master Forager, Mycologist, Agroforester, Ethnobotanist, Tour guide, Natural Material Researcher are just a few of the hats he wears. You could say he’s truly living by the ethos of diversity..
Although there was a strong language barrier it was evident Jorge was a force in the community but in the least forceful way possible. A warm, kind and sometimes silly man. Thank you for letting us tag along for a week. I only fully understood the depth of Jorge’s knowledge of this little pocket of the world once I got back and had all the material translated. Unfortunately a lot of the details of specific plants or mushrooms, their history, uses or cultural significance didn’t quite make it into the final cut. It’s always a struggle to condense a week’s experience into a 10 minute edit. I never really feel I do it justice but I at least hope this doc gives you a sense of the man. A great man.

Since 1998 Mungo have been making heirloom quality homeware textiles, inspired by traditional weaving techniques and designs from around the world. Today, they remain a family-run business, crossing generations. All Mungo products are individually woven at their mill in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa.

Gawie Fagan is known to be one of South Africa’s most celebrated architects, together with his wife and life-long creative partner Gwen Fagan who contributed as a historical researcher and landscape planner. Gwen and Gawie were married for 70 years, and lived joyously dedicated to one another and their work until Gawie’s passing in 2020.
Intended as a gift - This film features their granddaughter Alice Godfrey offering a tribute to their life and remarkable creativity. Filmed in their iconic home ‘Die Es’ where Gwen now lives alone at age 99.
